Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

My post office opens at 9 AM, but Sally, the Postmistress, called me at 8 AM (when she got there) to let me know my chicks had arrived - come get them. Of course, Little Meadows (N.E. Penna) has a population of, give or take, 325!

Regards,

Hey Kamir, we are only about 40 mins away from each other!!

My chickens actually have 4 balsaam firs to hide under--the hawk got a Welsummer pullet in the 5 ft gap between the fence and a fir tree! I had hoped to free range them when they are full-grown, as we have the acreage here. I did run monofillament line criss-cross over their yard, hung a stupid plastic owl from a fence post (I'll move it every couple of days), and a small mirror is now flashing in one of the firs. Thinkin' I might try a scarecrow . . .

Hi Shelbear81...

Tunkhannock area I believe is your location.

I regularly visit this thread as I am in Penna, born and raised in Norristown, SE Penna. However, I mostly frequent the NY Chicken Lovers thread as I am more familiar with the southern tier of NY than the northern parts of Penna.

Rehoboth Farm...not sure how far Armstrong county is from Susquehanna/Bradford Counties...my property is in both.

Rehoboth! A Welsummer! Oh no, I'm sorry. We have lots of crows. Their raucous usually alerts us to the fox's shenanigans. I believe corn is a good way to attract them.

are peacocks an option for you?? heard they are great guard birds... also i don't know if you saw my post about the saddles with the eyes on the back...

Welcome to all the newbies. Sorry on the loss rehobooth!

I also lost one of my pullets over the weekend...not sure what she died from. Came home last night to find her dead in one of the nest boxes with a feather from another bird locked in her beak....

In addition I "lost" 2 of my pullets.....they crowed!!!!!! My numbers are NOT going the way I wanted them to....that makes 7 roos...and 22 hens!!!! YIKES!

I am however picking up 6 14-week old ducks today...my luck, they're all boys too!
