can understand your thinking there.... I just set a dozen Black Copper Marans eggs yesterday.... but, I was hoping at least one of my hens were willing to hatch some of my own Marans and a few Cochins. I'm very pleased with the young Cochins as they are growing up and a few people came and liked them as well, so I guess I can reproduce them again.agreed, and the timing never quite works for me either, only thing I have close to hatch is marans, and I am not willing to risk them on first time broodies...but these girls are starting to look a little ragged aftyer trying for so long,
Any thoughts or experience with using PUMPKINS to naturally deworm ????I only spot de-worm. I use Ivomec injectable as a drench, or the pour on. I put some on the back of the head, middle of shoulders, it .20 ml per 3lbs of bird. It will also get rid of gape worm, lice, mites, fleas, and protect against blood sucking flies. You can also use Strongid 7-14 days after to treat the worms the Ivomec didn't get. I also use the paste for horses. It depends on the chickens size, and what I got.
Ohhhhhh So it's a chicken math group! No its the exact opposite. Its a bunch of people sitting and talking about buying more chickens, showing, buying, hatching, buying, husbandry, buying, and health. Mostly its about increasing your chicken flock.![]()
Okay! I got it. I didn't know all those details or maybe I did and it's been a while and trying to remember where everyone is without mapping out with pushpins and a state map with sticky notes takes some time. The guy from lancaster specializes in the larger operation, but infact does know quite a bit about the backyard flockers. And I talked to the NPIP people and Dr. Handshaw was in on it, it is not rec for small backyard flock owners to get npip because of the strict regulations unless you would like to be thrown into the classification as the larger hatcheries and want to ship birds across country. They have a program in PA for us that is similar without being thrown into the larger operations class while still providing a registration and annual testing of the birds. They are sending me a ton of info on that program, the chicken tech program, as well as other resources that we can use to make us backyard chicken flock owners safer with more accountable chickens.Well crap on a cracker, I swear I answered this!
Patricks, no I'm not from there...well...not exactly..I'm currently ALLLLLL the way over by Carlisle. I started this journey living within spitting distance of the ocean in Toms River, NJ. Then I met the most amazing man online. He convinced me to move to PA. I moved to Reading, as I wasn't willing to move all the way all at once, that seemed safe....then I moved to Schaefferstown (hence the knowledge of where you're talking about) and then to Columbia...and finally here to Gardners. I'm done moving. I'm finally with that wonderful man. We have our 3 acres. We have our birds, and we are happy...well, until I decide I really want that mini cow!![]()
I have an email into that Dr. about getting npip. I know someone recently did it, so I'd like to know costs/hassle etc.
And yes, I knew about that "expert" I find it sad that we have 1 poultry expert in the whole state, and he focusses on the big egg/chicken houses, and not really on us little backyarders and our needs. Maryland has a much better system, and actually hosts a learning day for begginers to long-term chicken raisers each year in like Marc
true i do seem to find I am more comfortable with other chicken people than I am other peopleThis is why I have animals, I am more comfortable with them than people...but chicken people are different somehow....
I am a diabetic too but I have always been a big girl ... and among other things I have PTSD that adds to social anxiety .. so yeah hermit here too most days !!!Me too but only since I gained weight, I have been a little mite my entire life and then in my early forties started with thyroid issues and diabetes, its hard to come out of my shell and I am now pretty much a hermit : (![]()
