ok ill try that ty for the idea... may put two smaller bricks in .. i dont turn again til morning anyway and am not wandering around in the yad with a flashlight this time of night at the brick pile .... lol too many spiders out there ...ewww
good idea,,,, and you have a plan... just avoid opening the incubator while the power is off,,, I think it would be more critical if they were even closer to hatch time

perhaps even try to warm up your bricks a bit before you put them in,,, put them in warm/hot water for a bit,,,, keep the incubator more stable even now

Thinking 10 or 15 minutes should be OK,,,, the eggs/embryos do not cool off as fast as the air around them in the incubator,,, not really that different from the hen or duck leaving the nest to eat and drink

if you have room in the bator, perhaps some rocks or something to help keep the temp up,,, takes some time for the rocks to cool off,,should help maintain temp

of course put the rocks inside well in advance so they are good and warm too !
I have ummm HAD rocks in my bator (small slate pcs I bleached to clean all in the bottom) kind see some here.... THANK God because even though we have a generator and back up plan, I DIDNT WAKE UP in the middle of the night!!! SO it saved my and Chads eggs!!!! also HOTHANDS I will keep handy from now on!!!

THOUGHTS......

Don't forget to place a cloth, crinoline is best, on the screen floor of the incubator. This protects the navel, the place where the abdomen closes after surrounding the remains of the yolk, from injury. It also makes cleaning the incubator easier. The longer eggs are held before setting, the lower the fertility will be. Try to set eggs before they are ten days old. At three weeks, the fertility will drop to zero.http://urbanext.illinois.edu/eggs/res21-poorhatches.html

I did not have this, or paper towels was on that wire rack.... I wonder if this is why the chick bled today, it stopped immediately after I patted corn starch on his butt. And cant even tell anything was wrong now!
