My dog Penny is 11 years old today-July 4th! The average life span of a St. Bernard is 6-8 years!

She'll get a can of food. Usually she just eats the dry stuff. She isn't into any toys or the chew bone type thing. Kind of limits how we can celebrate.

Penny sleeps most of the day but, is up at night watching over things. We often hear her barking at prediators and things in the night.

We had another St. Bernard before her (who lived to be 10 1/2 years) and she was a great cow dog.

They are such loving animals.

Congrats to you for taking such good care of Penny!

I have a Newfoundland that is 9, I hope he's still around in two years also. The big ones are so sweet and cuddly. (well, except for the drool

Happy Birthday Penny!!!

What a beautiful face. Give her a jowl scratch for me. She looks like a wonderful dog. I'm glad you've been able to have her with you for so long. That's really amazing!

After our dogs get to a more advanced age, where they could go any time, we start celebrating the 1/2 year birthdays, too.

We have celebrated her 1/2 birthdays for the last couple of years too!

I will pass on the birthday greetings to her.

Chirpy-her father was droolless so we don't have it quite so bad!

There was a fireworks we could see from our house last night (not sure who put them on) and I said to our oldest DD that it sure is nice they put a big display of fireworks on for Penny's b-day!

We seem to have a thing for dogs celebrating their birthdays on holidays. Heidi's birthday was Christmas.
