people using sand in coop

I picked up 1/2 a tonin pick-up truck!

I completly change over to sand in coop & roost pit 3 days ago!


I have been using a kitty litter scoop for around the pen!

I love it!

much cleaner

I need something with a longer handle for my roost pit though?

what do you use?

I put my DE in the sand mixes great
((I was thinking of putting baking soda in there too))

anyone do that?

My coop is sand too. I don't know how you have your roost set up but I use a small plastic shovel and and a pool screener to clean the sand. To sweeten it I use PDZ well mixed in to the sand.

I use a expandable rake to pull it into a pile and then a pooper scoop...Works like a charm..

I have a long handled kitty litter scoop I bought from pet supermarket. It's metal and works great.

Greg, those won't work with sand. Got one, use it for more than you can imagine.

I use a mini manure fork, the ones for miniature horses. They are smaller with the tines closer together. Works great. At the last miniature horse show I got 2, one for the horse and one for the chicken coop.
