It's a popular myth about Minecraft. An evil guy named Herobrine who explored your world before you did, and went crazy. He's said to look like the default character skin, but with glowing white eyes.

He is supposedly 'Notch's brother'. That's the story anyways... He kind of stalks you. Once in awhile you can get fairly close to him. Haven't seen him personally... It's kind of like Bigfoot. No solid proof... you either believe or don't. I personally believe he exists.

ETA- There is a mod for making him appear. And let me tell you, it's scary. VERY scary.

If he did exist, it's unlikely that he'd be the ghost of Notch's brother. Notch has stated several times that he's never had a brother.

Indeed. Though it is creepy. I've heard that they're gonna add Herobrine in a future update. Hopefully that's not true.

I've heard a myth that Herobrine was actually a person, then he died in a car crash and his spirit was entwined into Minecraft. He supposedly has an obsession with redstone torches.
Now I'll probably be looking over my shoulder every second of the Minecraft day, going paranoid because of some really creepy rumors.
