people with house chickens

Disagree! I'm partial to call duck babies. They just have the teeny tiniest beaks, they almost look like cartoon duckies! But then again I'm biased as all heck towards my lil' dudes. XD

Ever since he has been outside, Finn has been THE sweetest baby ever!! He has been more affectionate now than he has since he was a chick! He has been following me around all day, cuddling and sleeping under my neck, and when I was getting his stuff ready for bed, he jumped up on top of the coop and walked right onto my shoulder! I'm so glad this all worked out.

Quick question: Where do you guys get your diapers from? And any recommendations for indoor enclosures?

I got my diapers from Crazy K Farm. Good quality and they come with a D-ring on back so you can hook a leash and walk them.

Eh, I was hoping to talk to someone who had some DIY ideas. Found a youtube video of someone converting an ikea bookcase with linoleum and caulking tape, but hers was a bit small and shallow.

I'll also PM Poco, I wonder if he makes 'em for babies too! Thanks for the tip!

I didn't like the available styles of several diapers I looked at online and I thought for the $15 to $25 charged for one diaper I could make 5 of them from my scrap sewing materials. Silkies have so much fluff that I decided to make my own without straps going underneath the stomach because those 5-toed Silkies find all kinds of ways to tangle up their toes in the straps. So I went to youtube.com and typed "how to make chicken diapers" in the search bar and the only video to come up 3 years ago was from chickenmom. She had two house bantams so her pattern was perfect for our Silkies. I measured like she showed and cut a pattern like she showed and it worked well. I used soft underwear elastic for straps and instead of velcro closings I used a large safety pin carefully to pin the two shoulder straps over the bird's back. Many online diaper styles show the elastic covered with gathered cloth but I found the simpler the style without fancy additives, the better for dealing with Silkie fluffy feathers. Velcro snags Silkie fluff so I promptly vetoed using it. Velcro is ok on hard feathered birds but not on fluffy or silkie down. I also devised a trimmed sandwich baggie pouch for the diaper area lined with heavy duty paper towel inserts all cut to fit inside the pouch and pinned to the diaper pouch. We just unpinned the plastic baggie liner and threw the whole thing away. People come up with their own little modifications when making their own diapers plus we liked that our diapers were precisely measured to exactly fit our Silkie's measurements instead of guessing that a mail order would be the proper fit.
