........I hatch a lot of chicks...so I have them in the house until they are old enough to go outside to live.....It's a job keeping their brooder boxes clean.......every once in a while....I'll have a jumper running around the house...good thing I have Bamboo flooring...easy to clean.....~Charm1704

To Dowie and Charm: This is America, so we are free to do as we wish...But PLEASE RECONSIDER HAVING CHICKENS IN THE HOUSE. Living with chickens in the house can cause several serious diseases. It's impossible to keep the air free of the dust and particles from the feathers. There is one blood disorder that is sometimes fatal that is transmitted by breathing the same air as fowl. Google this for a list. If you have children or elderly people in the house be really cautious about this. ...Again, this an opinion which you DID NOT ASK FOR and we are still free to do and think as we choose...Good Luck and God Speed...

Hey Bill, thanks for the warning. I actually don't do the house chicken thing, as we have a massive backyard and they can poop up a storm out there! I have enough problems trying to keep my house tidy as it is.

It's true that birds carry serious zoonotic diseases (ie one's that can cross over to humans). Problem is, whether or not the birds are house chickens, the minute you start cleaning up the poo you are at risk. I try not to think about it too much, but sometimes wonder if I should wear a mask when cleaning out the coop? It's pretty amazing what sort of poop particles are in there.

Ha ha, yes the poop is going to be an issue, and thanks for the info about the diapers, I never thought of that I wouldn't want to end up with dirty pasty butts! I cant wait until they grow up and find out is they are hens or roo's, if they are roos then I'm going to have to give them to someone Else Sad because we are already bonding with them lol. EE's are cool, you never know what you will get. One of the little EE's is acting like a roo already; Esther just might end up being an Olav after all, he is always the first one to come for food always freaks out when I pick him up and gets a little protective over the other two and I also saw my little chipmunk EE (Eggness) preening him last night!! Plus he is noisy noisy noisy, all day its PEEP PEEP PEEP PEEP from him except when hes sleeping Its a pretty loud peep too, not like the other two (Mable, the silkie is so quiet and adorable with her little squeaks). So we may end up with only two chickens but I suppose we will find out. As for the dog (Burly), she doesn't even care, today I had them out on the coffee table and she didn't even care until I put them in the cage then she sniffed a bit, so we might be safe. Our female cat Muma Loo was really interested in them and slightly obsessed but today shes over it, things seem to be calming down around here. Wow I'm a crazy animal lady...we need a bloody farm!! We may end up starting a community coop and I am looking into good egg breeds to mix in with some EE's, any suggestions?

What a fun thread!!!
I currently have 2 house Serama and a baby house Toulouse gosling. I'm in the process of putting together a large bird cage to all 6 serama and 2 silkies can live inside, but DH's rules are they have to be diapered, so only the 2 diapered serama get free reign of the house.
I have a 5 wk old barnyard mix Crossbeak that likes me and Trina (the gosling) more than the other chickens, and loves to be inside, so as soon as I can put a diaper together for her, she will move inside with Trina and be house chicken.















Taco likes the camera! But his girlfriend is camera shy - she is also VERY wiggly LOL
