MsChickenMomma, does she do the thing where she walks backwards and puts her head down and weaves back and forth? That's what Ebony does and she looks like a bumbling idiot. They get used to it eventually, though. Don't give up hope!

My chooks usually just go to bed whenever the sun goes down. If I keep them up past that time, they (especially Ebony) get really cranky and start grumbling and even biting. You do NOT want to be around Ebony when she's mad! Well, maybe you do.... she's pretty funny when she's mad.![]()
I mean honestly what did you expect???? . You made him wear PINK!Here is my new Roo, we are trying him out as a house RooNo shortage of entertainment with this guy!
NEVER have I seen this reaction when I put on the diaper OMG! Need a very appropriate name for this little guy! my little 2 stepping Roo!
Yes, exactly! Ebony's diaper is too big, so when she took high steps she used to get her feet caught in her diaper! And them I would have to run over there and help her before she went bouncing and flopping around trying to get it off. Too funny.![]()

Well, one time she was completely used to it and walking around in one day. But as soon as I put it on the next day she started the process all over again. I haven't really tried the diaper much since. Usually I just hold her with a towel under her.
Oh, and here's a tip! If you put her in her diaper, and then put her with other chickens, she will want to "look cool" in front of everyone and eventually she'll start acting normal. Their logic is so funny. That has usually worked for me.![]()
When I had Taco in the house in his diaper 24/7 (a serama roo, his GF died and I didn't want him living outside in the winter time alone, he was a great diaper wearer) I always made sure to keep the lights on him AWAKE until I went to bed otherwise he would wake up and start crowing at the crack of dawn and I would have to grab him and snuggle so I could get a few more hours sleep.Sunni's diaper was a bit to big, so we had to do some adjustments to it. Now it actually fits the way it's supposed to, so she hates it. She wouldn't stop trying to walk backwards to get out of it.It'll take some getting used to now. She still isn't sleeping in the house at night just yet. I want her to get used to being inside during the day first before I start having her sleep inside.![]()
For those of you who already have house chickens (or ducks), what time do you put yours to bed? Do they just stay by you on the couch or something until you go to bed, or do you put them in their beds at the time they would go to bed if they were outside? I'm not sure what to do for Sunni. After dinner I usually just sit on the couch and read or surf BYC until bed, so maybe she can just stay on my lap? Her roosting area is all the way upstairs, and I think she would feel nervous being up there alone. She hates it when I leave her.
