people with house chickens

My muscovy duck was like that for a few diaper sessions. Eventually they just get used to it. Just don't give in and take it off. Then they are training you, haha.

So should I leave the diaper on 24/7 until she gets used to it? Or do I continue taking it off at night? She won't stop high stepping in the diaper, and then she hooks her toes in it, stretches it down, and then steps out of it. Not sure how to stop her from doing this. I tried pinning the diaper so it is a bit more snug, but she still does it. Stubborn girl...

@Tacampbell1973 I have one hen who is the same way. I have 15 really nice nest boxes for my girls to choose from, but she insists on laying her egg in the cat box in the loft of my barn. I tried just not letting her out and keeping her in the coop so she'll lay in the nest boxes, but she held in her egg for two days. I finally gave in and just let her have her way. I worried she would make herself egg bound!

I would take it off at night, she will still get used to it, itll just take a few days, they're stubborn! My girl tried the same thing. I think its important to give that area a bit of "breathing room" at some point though (ie. over night)

What do all of your house chickens do during the day? All Sunni does right now is eat, drink, and stand on my lap. She's really noisy today, so I'm wondering if she's bored. If she would just get used to that stinkin diaper she could explore the house. *sigh*

Well I wouldn't leave it on her 24/7. I would put it on her for maybe 2 hours at a time and then decide whether to change the diaper or take it off. Make sure she gets plenty of treats while in the diaper to distract her from it at first. Keep her in a indoor cage or pen when she can't be watched. A dog crate is great for this. As far as hooking her foot on the diaper-that means it is too big. You need to take safety pins and pin it up so it's tighter around her belly. Not too tight but not loose at all. That way it would be much harder for her to get her foot stuck.

Mine are by no means full timers but we start with no more than about a halfr hour. I tryto get them to stay in my lap at the end of the day to watch tv and snuggle, but when they start getting up and wandering around they go back out. It would be different with a diaper though.

Frizzle Aka Pidgey spends most of her day in her dog crate coop. She gets out for some sun and forging once a day and then she sits on my parrot's t-stand for a while. She will jump off and come over by me if she wants treats or to be held. She loves peas as treats. She spends a lot of time indoors preening herself, picking stuff of the carpet(I have parrots so there is a lot of seed on my floor), stretching. and making little sounds.

Chickens can be soooo stubborn. I have two that insist on laying in the flowerpot on the porch...neveryoumind that they have a wonderful set of three nestboxes in the coop with fresh hay. Oh and the three that do lay in there insist on using the same one. I have caught them standing on each other in it. Crazy birds.
Typical. Just typical.

I am not sure if this is allowed but this is Webster. He's a 4 week old mallard duckling. He is wearing a makeshift homemade diaper until his new diapers arrive.
