people with house chickens

Hmmm. Multi-quote fail.

Anyway, raisins and "craisins" (dried cranberries) are good treat, just a few each day, though. Black oil sunflower seeds are okay daily, as their protein content won't lower the accumulated daily protein level.

Scrambled eggs are always a good treat.

As to molting, yes, house chickens molt. It's to replace damaged feathers with nice, new, pristine ones, not necessarily just because it's molting "season."

Yes I'm sure Sunni will keep you happy. :)
Well my chickens usually molt and they live inside, but Ebony has never had a full molt. :idunno My rooster is actually molting right now. Feathers everywhere!

I need a good chicken treat do y'all have any good ones?
Mine love meal worms, cantaloupe, fresh corn on the cob (but it gives them runny poo

) There is a list under The Tab "Learning Center" I think when you go there it is under "Feeding and Caring for Your Flock". Has a HUGE list of chicken safe treats..It has a lot of good ideas...some they will like and some they wont, just like people. Good luck

I tried giving her slices of strawberry and tiny pieces of carrots, but she wouldn't touch either. Anybody else's birds refuse strawberries or carrots?

Or any other odd foods for that matter?
The carrot would be to hard and the strawberry shoulda been ok but each bird is different..Also your bird may change its mind. Things my birds used to turn their beaks up at before, now they love....who knows why. All you can really do is just try and see what works. I have heard to sstay away from citrus. Honeydew and cantaloupe are always high on my flocks list, meal worms and craisins....some of my birds like whole wheat bread but am told you should not feed a lot of bread,

Aside from citrus, any raw beans/lentils etc are also a big no no! Must be cooked for those of you that don't know, as they have a toxin that could potentially harm our birds when they are raw.

Mine love strawberries, but for some reason they won't go near strawberry tops.

Carrots wound be hard for them to eat. Mine have never touched them before. Maybe if you cooked them up and mashed them they would eat them.

Citrus is not toxic. There was a misconception a while back and we are still hearing about it. A while ago, some company did a test to see if leftover orange pulp from orange juice production could be used as a chicken feed because it was inexpensive. The study showed that "citrus should not be used as chicken feed", but everyone thought that meant it was bad for them. Citrus will not harm your chickens! Mine love it and it's full of vitamins for their little bodies.

In addition to uncooked beans and lentils, avocadoes, potato skins, and too much sugar are toxic. ( Don't feed chickens candy, lol!)

They were just tiny little pieces, less than half the size of a corn kernel. I just cut off a tiny piece like that a few times and she always looked at it like it would attack her or something! I always questioned if it had something to do with the colour.
Perhaps I'll try mashed sometime.
