people with house chickens

Frizzle loves to talk. She makes a bunch of cute quiet sounds that don't bother me at all. She loves when I give her lettuce and other vegetables. Right now I'm using shredded newspaper as her cage bedding and it's working nicely. I'm wondering if she will lay eggs indoors because she is getting to the age to start laying.

My coworkers thought I was nutty, cause after my babies hatch, I put them in a playpen. They stay there, in my bedroom, until they start "flying" out. When I wake up to chickens walking on my bed, that's when they're old enough to be outside. If it's warm enough, that is!

I've been lucky with the bullying thing, but then again, everyone in my house is a bantam. Haha. The two 5 week olds face off and spar with each other about a hundred times a day, but it's all for show or maybe for fun.. Not sure which, but they both cram their ever-growing bodies into the nesting box with mama when it's bedtime, so I know they love each other :)

And the babies are doing great! Turd Butt had a growth spurt, and is now the biggest d'uccle and the biggest of all 7! He/She seems to be very social, and looks just ridiculous with that beard slowly coming in. The two Sebrights (Enzo the smallest one out of them all, and Jezza the loudest of all) are taking to handling very well. They will let you lay them on their backs and pet their bellies until they fall asleep. It's just more adorable than words can explain :D

Otherwise, out of the 7 eggs in the incubator, only 1 or 2 looks to be fertile. I got them from someone who said they weren't sure if any of them would be at all. They're Silkie eggs, so I figured I'd take my chances :)

Oh, and I'm trying as hard as I can to keep myself from buying a breeding trio of Seramas. Problem is, the price is so good, I don't know how I'm gonna resist!

Helllllp!!!!

I guess there are other things I could be addicted to that are more harmful and more expensive than adorable chickens, huh?

Like blue meth! :drool

(I'm kind of a massive Breaking Bad fan)

PS: Your frizzle is beyond adorable! All hail the house chickens!!!!!!

Of all the addictions in the world, chicken addiction is the best! Love love love my babies!

Agreed! I tend to spend about an hour a day cuddling with my Silkie rooster, with Dr. Orpheus the cat on one side, and Roscoe the Pit Bull on the other :) Those are great times!

I know, that sounds soooo masculine, doesn't it? Bahahahs

Being addicted to chickens is definitely the best kind of addiction. Some people may find it weird, but hey. It makes us happy. ;)

Sunni is upset with me because her diaper is in the wash and she can't come out. She's making all kinds of grumpy/irritated noises in her little coop. I promised her I would give her a few pieces of the homemade macaroni we are having for dinner.
