people with house chickens

Bluebelle is a Bluebelle or Blue Ranger hybrid !!! She had an emergency vet appointment and wasn't named by the people who were going to cull her so Bluebelle just stuck

Bluebelle sleeps anywhere but she is a fidget at night and she snores and Henry sleeps in the bed with me with his neck stretched out and bum in the air

This was Bluebelle when I first got her she was so thin couldn't walk and was nervous and was already a year old

This is her a few days later so much difference

And this is a more recent pic of her

That's very cool! She sure is pretty!
I LOVE that last photo, she looks crazed! That's the look my chickens get when I have treats. Crazed look, and then they all pounce!
I'm glad she is doing so much better now! Happy big fluffy chicken!
She snores?! That's a hoot! I was worried Nuke was dead last night she was so quiet! But first thing this morning she was up and pecking away at the food box to remind me I hadn't left the lid open for her breakfast LOL

Glad you did KyleG! I would love to see a pic of your coop :)
Got some pictures today. the coop is set on top of two base cabinets so we have storage space. We heat our sunroom so they stay warm ( the windows steal alot of heat) and the places where you dont see wire, we fastened sheets of lexan. the coop is split one large side for our "big" hens and a slightly smaller side for the silkies.( the two groups never really got along with eachother so they remain separate)without further ado, the coop!

This is the inside of the big girls side. they were roaming around on the floor while i took this. the nesting boxes are secure to the back with curtain hangers so they don't tip them over when they perch on the edge. we also built a perch that runs horizontal so they can get off the ground to sleep. the silkie side has slightly smaller duplicates

The inside of the silkies side. the quilt in background is to keep more heat and stop the roosters from seeing the sun too early in the morning(before like 6:45)

While I was at it, I figured I'd post an update on Sterling, the little Silkie I hatched, and I managed to get a pic of the little Serama as well :)

They're both super calm, and Sterling is already very much into cuddling and whatnot :) I am so proud of that little bird!

They are adorable! I have always wanted a Silkie for my flock, but I have never had the oppurtunity to get one. Is Sterling a white Silkie?

Thanks :)

If you're even thinking about getting a Silkie, just do it! They are amazing birds. Awesome personality, and their clumsy, funny antics will always make you smile!

It's kind of early to tell, but I'm 99% sure Sterling is a splash. I did have a white baby that I bought, but sadly, that one didn't make it. Just kind of dropped dead for no reason. Makes you realize how high the mortality rate of young chicks can be.

Thanks

Hoepfully in a few years I'll be able to get a Silkie or two. But right now eight (nine if you count Sunni) chickens in the city limits is kind of pushing it.

Sterling really is beautiful. Will he/she be a house chicken? Sorry about your white Silkie...

It she is hard to lose them, even if they were just babies.

Sterling will definitely be a house chicken! :D And thank you!!! Sterling is my extra special baby, as he/she is the first one I've ever incubated/hatched. I was there to see him (I'll just say him from now on. Haha) come out of the egg, and it was an amazing moment for me. Since I don't ever plan to poison the earth with any human offspring, this is as close to one of those "proud fatherhood" moments as I'm ever gonna have. Haha.

Sterling came from some very highly awarded show stock, so I was pretty sure he'd come out gorgeous, but I'd love him even if he was 3 toed and cross-eyed :D

Losing babies is really really hard. I lost my black Serama and the little white baby Silkie within a couple of weeks of each other, so it was a real bummer. Sometimes they just don't make it, no matter what you do.
