people with house chickens

So 2 things happened today:

First is I got ANOTHER baby chick. Its one of the older ones, and he's in the brooder right now. I'm trying to catch the other 3 and the mama hen. Oh, and guess what? I saw a hawk pick up a baby chick today. Flew right over my head, I ducked down and when I got back up he was already as high as the house and I saw him holding something in his feet. I heard the neighbors rooster making a racket so I ran over and the hawk flew over me.

Aaand, Wildberry Princess had a prolapsed vent so after a bath and Prep H. she's in the house for tonight. All seems good now.

Hopefully Wildberry Princess will have a speedy recovery! What causes that to happen?

Actually 3 things happened today - rescued a chick, one got carried away, and a prolapsed vent.

Friend of mine had a Sexlink that kept having laying issues and an EE with prolapsed vent. I researched that prolapsed vent can be recurring in a hen and that hybrid production birds are most susceptible. Any ideas?

She is muuuch better today, already in the nest box trying to lay an egg! I'm not sure how it happens.

Wildberry Princess is a full black Australorp. I also heard it can happen more than one time but today she is much better and I haven't seen anything.

So this morning I found the new chick laying on his side, not moving. I thought he was dead but after I poked him he poked up his head. Couldn't walk, so I looked around him and I saw his leg and his eye were a little bloody (outside of the eye). He is sleeping a lot, but I just hope he gets better.

The baby chick just died. I'm pretty sure he had some kind of illness, it wasn't because of our babies. The ones I'm trying to catch are impossible to catch, but this one was easy. R.I.P Baby chick.

My friend said it happened to her EE a couple times. Probably why the previous owner gave her up for free. She lost all 3 of her donated Sexlinks too. Guess it's best not to acquire adult hens.

Survival of the fittest. Happened on my folks' farm all the time. What makes it through is the fittest and what doesn't is taken home by Mother Nature. I was hoping your guy made it well and good. I take animal illness/injury with heartache. It was hard for me as a child to grow up on a farm where this kind of thing was "normal."

Thanks guys. I managed to get the other remaining babies and brought them down to my friends place where they will have an amazing life. Mama hen doesn't seem too worried.
