people with house chickens

Dogs are definitely a plus on wide open acreage! Lovely photos w/nice detail - you have a good camera. I have a little 10mp Nikon digital and am looking into a DSLR. Maybe prices will come down at Xmas time!
I use a canon rebel - they are about 300 ish, and sometimes cheaper In ebay if you get lucky. i do a lot of post-photo editing in photoshop to compensate for not having a manual camera. I like auto's better.

suburbanminifarm, your funny. The first couple days around here with three brooders in the living room was crazy. But I have my routine down now so things are much better. I get up between 5:30 and 6am to start feeding and watering everyone, clean brooders, ducks have to be supervised in the tub.... Then I get the kids off to school. walk the dogs with my best friend for about an hour. Clean house. Then brooders again. I do the brooders and make sure water is changed and food is topped off about 4 times a day. Its a good thing I don't have a job. I am pretty busy.

I love your serama chick. She is to cute. You are so great for rescuing those chickens. I don't know if I'd be able to do something like that. They would have to stay in the garage I suppose.  You must have a very cool set up with different coops? Post pics please.

With all of these chickens I was worried I wasent spending enough time with everyone so last night I made a baby sling out of an old towel. Now I can hold the silkies hands free. I can still do laundry, make beds etc. and they are all safe and cozy. I think its going to work good
House chicken?!! How cute! I have eleven girls about 5 months old. Red Stars. They love being outside and free ranging. One almost came in the back door yesterday. We have tile floors. I may let her in next time !!

The 300-ish very basic Canon RebelT5 is what I've been looking at but by the time I get the necessary accessories it gets up to 400-ish. I don't need professional photographer photos ~ All I want is a camera that takes fast frame action shots rather than one-at-a-time digital-type time-delay focus. My chickens move fast so a 5 frames per second camera or better is what I need. I've been scanning for starter DSLRs but nothing so far on sale or ebay. Sometimes ebay is pricier than the stores! Maybe a Xmas wish list!

Those are okay too... look at the XT version, it's cheaper and I can do motion shots with them. ;) That's what I have.

This was taken with the canon rebel XT - she was moving in this picture, working her way out of the roll when she realized I'd found her LOL

Hi, I am new here. I have 3 house chickens currently. I was only supposed to have my frizzle cochin girl Persephone but my friend gave me a little polish (chipmunk). Then chicken math hit me and I added Poe a little showgirl on Sunday.
Persephone goes everywhere with me and has a fan club. I am hoping the other two can join us when they are a little bigger.

Welcome! And yes..it is easy to go from one to many chickens with no effort at all! But they are such fun and amazing pets!

Big Roo decided one day he wanted to be a house Roo. Was sitting in the family room with all my Dogs when they started looking out the patio door. When I looked here came my Roo marching like a mad hatter towards the house from the barn. Jumped right onto the deck and was looking through the glass door.. so I slid the door open a bit and asked "ok, so do you want to come in?) opening the door more and stepping aside laughing to myself.. and yes he did Roo walked right into the house.. and the expression on my dogs faces was priceless " Mom!!!! that is so NOT RIGHT" I laughed and waved the dogs off.. told the dogs OH he's fine Mamma said it's fine"

I walked down the hallway with the dogs in tow, leaving Roo to explore the house. I go to my sewing room every evening to work on my quilts.. Dogs all settle down around me and we put a movie or TV series in the VCR (We were Binge watching LOST) ... next thing i know is Roo had made it down the hallway and was looking into the sewing room.. (things that make you giggle) and I told Roo he could come in and he did, looking around, walking around the dogs.. Roo kept looking up at the tubs that i had stacked up the wall full of my different quilt fabrics so I grabbed an old dog crate blanket put it on the top tub for traction and put Roo up on top.. Roo Watched and listen around the room , was watching TV with some comments here and there.. When it was time for me to call it a day and go to bed.. Roo was fast asleep up top of the tubs, so sweet that I didn't have the heart to wake him so I left him there and turned off the lights and myself with the dogs in tow, went to the other side of the house to my bedroom.

Woke up as my dogs usually are sitting staring at the bed for any signs of life lol lol .. opening my eyes i seen the dogs.. and right behind them right outside the bedroom door was Roo standing there too lol lollol lol.. that just cracked me up so much.. That some how that silly Rooster was gathered with my dogs waiting on me too... Typical morning with the dogs is to get up and open the back door for them to go out, and Roo followed right behind them and made his way back to the Barn to do his day Job with his hens...

Roo would come to the house every evening for over a week maybe close to 3 weeks total. same thing every day come marching up to the house look in the patio door to be let in then make his way to the sewing room to sit with us and talk or watch LOST with us and fall asleep and then go back to the barn during the day.. Then he just stopped doing it???? and never did it again for the rest of his life. he always hopping at my feet to be picked up when i was doing barn chores and i would pick him up to carry in one arm while i got my work done, not easy with one hand but how can you say no to this rooster..

When Roo stopped roosting in the rafters when he was old, i was worred about him being on the barn floor.. So i go in at night and pick him up to bring back in house set him up a comfy spot on my futon able to watch TV and fall asleep and bring him out to the barn in the morning when the chill was gone. he happy to run around with his Hens all day long king of his domain as always. Then the morning came when i sat him down in the barn and he rolled over instead of getting up on his feet. you just know .. i picked him back up hugged him and brought him back to the house to his spot on the futon , talked to him hugged him and said it was ok... he is the best.. Roo past away within an hour of bringing him back in some where in the middle of Price is right... which is fun for a bird since they have all the sounds of bells and whistles in the show... Been many years still miss his hoppy pick me up self walking into the barn with him not there...

sleeping on the fabric tubs

And the dogs bless their souls for putting up with Roo..

Welcome! Do you currently have any chickens...house  or outside ? Sorry if you posted them previously! Haven't been on in a few weeks :/

I'm not supposed to have any chickens but I currently have in my possession two pullets and a cockerel. I don't really have a yard so they're in the house until I can rehome them to a family friend. His flock is all adults so I'm raising them until they're big enough to be introduced the flock.

So I have a proposition for all y'all.. I had to custom design diapers that my radbird will tolerate (she HATES every model I could find) and after being unable to find one with the same benefits, I'm hoping to "sell them" (not looking for any profits, I just wanna see happy chicks) the diapers fit without and straps touching the wings, so they are free to flap, and the preening gland is fully accessible.

I need 2-3 birds to start of various sizes and preferably who don't normally tolerate their diapers or are often uncomfortable when diapered to see if I could possibly sew off just measurements. And it would be FREE (though donations toward shipping are welcome for subsequent fittings)

Message me or post about how your Birb could benefit from the absence of the shoulder straps, (I will even consider situations where you may be in a tough spot financially and can't afford diapers, me and Rad have been there) I'd appreciate it!
