Me: Pretty much anything not Diet, Dr. pepper is my first pick most of the time.
Spouse: Coke, Dr. pepper, Pepsi in that order, also no diet stuff.
Step dad: Dr. pepper or nothing. He has left restaurants because they do not have DP. When the grandparents come to see there grandkids (our 2 DD) he packs a cooler of DP, just so he can get one when he wants. He is a true DP addict.
BTW I should say we are all in Texas home of Dr. Pepper.
Coke Classic...can't beat it...and I agree with them all being a coke...you just have to state which kind of coke you want! Soda is what they mix with the syrup; it's not a drink! lol And a pop is what your momma gives you when you have a smart mouth!

No way! Neither one is a Southern thing. Have to call them all "Coke", no matter what the brand.
Me, I cant drink anything except Diet Rite anymore because I try not to ingest Aspartame-gives both of us headaches. Coke with Splenda is nasty and it's the only one besides Diet Rite that uses Splenda in its diet version. Then, Diet Rite is also sodium free, something I like, too.
Yep, everything brown and carbonated is a Coke to me too!! If it's clear, it's a 7-up, and if it's colored (Like Fanta or Big Red) then we just call it by the color name.. like an orange, or a red, or the occasional grape. I love Diet Rite too. The Tangerine is a favorite of mine!
But, as of lately, I am a total Tea drinker. Iced tea with Splenda.. I grab a Route 44 from Sonic every morning on the way to work.
When I lived in Texas we called all carbonated drinks COKE...all Coke even if it was a Pepsi.
When I lived in Maryland we called it Soda.
When I lived In Michigan we called it Pop.
In New Hampshire...they call it Soda too.
I drink Sweet Tea though!
But if I am in the mood for a COKE...I drink Dr. Pepper. When it goes flat I heat it and drink with slice of lemon like tea!! YUM!!
Almost everyone I know, or have known, calls it, 'soda.' As in, "Would you like a soda with that?" Then you get into what kind.
Unless you know the person well enough to know what they drink, then you ask them if they'd like, say, a rootbeer with that, or, by brand. Such as, Crush. Then if they say yes, you ask which kind.
I've heard people call it soda pop, or pop, but generally they are transplants, or they picked it up from relatives who are from somewhere else.
I also did meet someone who called all soda's cokes, and yes, she was from the south.
Here, however, if you ask for Coke, you will get a Coca Cola.
If the brand is unimportant, some people will just ask for a Cola, but it's still got to be that.
The fizzy clear stuff with minerals in it, or not, is either called, 'Mineral Water' or 'Soda Water.' I refer to it as the brand I drink, at home. If I was out and asking, I'd ask for a, mineral water. If I am talking to someone about it casually, I usually call it, soda water.
The white powder for baking is called, Baking Soda, to differentiate from Baking Powder.
That looks complicated, but it's really not. We just call it what it is, or call it generically, soda.
