I thought I finally found a breeding pair of Ameraucanas. This is a copy of her reply when I asked if they are full blooded...

"I go them from the Garden and Feed Store in Elizabethtown two years ago, and yes americanas and Easter eggers are the same thing. The hen is gold and black and the rooster has black, red, blonde and green on his body and black and blonde on his neck. The hen lays a pretty pale green egg. Here are some more pictures. "
Where can you find PURE birds...

With almost all of the hatcheries offering EE as Ameraucanas or worse yet Americanas a lot of people just don't know that in fact they really have EEs. [IMG] Maybe you could be polite about it and educate her at the same time? Esp. since she asked where she can get PURE birds.

Three different things--two breeds and a mix that has, to a very small extent, a single thing in common.

Of course all adult female chickens have one thing in common, therefore they msut be the same breed [IMG]

I personally have nothing againsed mixed/cross breed chickens--I have a backyard full of them to eat bugs, fertilize and eat the grass and lay eggs to share with neighbors. But they are not the same as my exhibition and breeder birds.

now I'm ticked. I wrote back I wasn't interested since I was after full blooded and referred her to search google for ameraucanas... this was the reply

Maybe you should do YOUR Research. I never said these were A-R-A-U-C-A-N-A's, which are a breed froNo, I m Chile that are rumpless and lay BLUE eggs! The A-M-E-R-I-C-A-N-A's are a breed that was created here in AMERICA from crossing the Arauracan's with other breeds yet they still retain their colored egg laying gene! Their eggs range in color from blues to greens in varying shades and because of the variety of colors the are often refered to as "Easter Eggers"! Maybe you see them as mutts, that is your opinion! How do think breed are developed? By crossing other breeds and establishing a new set of standards for that breed. Personally, I like Americanas for their variety! I also Like Rhode Island Reds! BUT, I don't going around critisizing other people for their preferences, I never advertised these as ARAUCANAS BECAUSE THEY AREN'T! maybe YOU should go do some studying! Start with something on MANNERS sir, because you need some, but most of all I think you should start with THE BIBLE, because you sound like a bitter, lonely, angry person, who needs the LOVE of Jesus in your heart. Maybe then you could be a little more tolerant and compasionate with people. Because even though you are being a jerk right now, I will pray for you. We can all be jerks at times, but come on, aren't you going out of your way on this one!

since she spelled it Americana it is obvious they are EE's. Many people get offended when you *educate* them that they have Easter Eggers and not true Ameraucana. That is why the whole deceit from the hatcheries causes so many problems [IMG] . I have yet to find a single person in real life that really knows the difference and most seem shocked when I tell them the difference, and they ALL say the same thing.....why do the hatcheries lie? I just shrug and say I have no idea [IMG]
I would do 1 of 2 things. 1- just ignore her, you don't know her and never will. 2- Send her an e-mail apologizing that I did not mean to offend her, but there is an actually a breed called an AMERAUCANA and I would send her the link, then thank her for her time and wish her well in the selling of her birds. Just what I would do, not saying this is what you should do....

    good luck [IMG]

    eta- added the link http://www.ameraucana.org/

I agree with klf73. It seems obvious that she doesn't realize that ameraucanas are a recognised breed just as are araucanas, and that Easter Eggers are a 3rd thing.
