I'm glad to see that windows aren't a turn-off for hens! I'll give them both options. My coop should be ok with size--it will be almost 43 square feet for 5 large hens and about 3 silkies [I say about with the silkies because I don't know how many roos I might have...]. It's just that I have earmarked two walls for the perches, but if I need more room, I can add greater length or put a perch on another wall.
So do hens perch all together if they can fit, or spread out? I guess the latter...

Thanks for the info especially regarding the silkies. I guess I'll try various little ones for them to see what they'll do. I really want perches over a shelf so I can use the Sweet PDX under it. Would I be able to get the silkies to climb a ramp to the higher perches? Those that want to perch that is, the others can sleep on the floor if they like.
