perches

I read in a "chicken book" that when its cold outisde, a flat perch is more practical because the hens can sit on their feet to keep them warm!

I went out and cut down some small oak trees. I predrilled them and screwed them to the walls in the corners. Did not cost a thing and all my chickens seem to love them.

In our current coop they have rounded (well tree branches) and in the coop that we are building will be flat so they can keep warm better in the winter.

I used 1X2's that were left over from a project. They work great and are flat enought that the chickens can hunch down without difficulty.

Good Luck!
