Last night my big rooster still had mites!!! Nobody else, but there he was. I sprayed him heavily again, and tonight all is well. More updates later, as I see how everyone does.
About 20% of my coop isn't yet cleaned out, so mites are likely still present. This will be done by Saturday, and then it's all going to be fresh and treated, and fixed, I hope.

Are these red roost mites or northern fowl mites?

Which mites? I'm not sure, haven't looked at them with magnification yet. Rotten tiny fast moving critters, dark brown/red in color. Yuck!

Only on the birds at night or on them 24/7?
night only = red roost mite
24/7 = northern fowl mite

I know, but generally don't want to chase after the rooster during the day. He gets checked when roosting, so that's why the questionable ID.

Tonight I checked the birds after dark, and no mites seen! Maybe the new spray?! We also cleaned out the bedding, and used permethrin powder on the floor under the new shavings.
It's been cold to spray them again, so it hasn't happened.

I have a broody setting on eggs and I have noticed red mites and possibly other bugs. My first instinct is to treat with permethrin spray but how is that going to work with a broody and the eggs? Should I wait until they have hatched? Should I try to move them? Should I buy dust for the broody and this situation?
