I picked up some Permethrin .25% at Home Depot - the only "brand" available was Ortho's Ant-b-Gon dust.

We don't have TSC's here - but isn't this the same thing though? http://www.tractorsupply.com/livestock/livestock-fly-control/livestock-dust/y-tex-garden-and-poultry-insect-control-dust-2-lbs-shaker-can-2204294

Can
I ignore the "OMG DANGER THIS WILL MELT YOUR SKIN AND YOU WILL DIE AND WE SAID DON'T TOUCH IT SO ITS NOT OUR FAULT" warnings all over the package? I'd imagine those warnings are not on the Y-Tex dust but they list the same ingredients so.....?

I wanted to mix it with DE and sand for a dusting box to help get rid of some persistent mites/etc.

I read somewhere on here that I can mix the dust with Vaseline and 'paint' the hard to get areas on the bird itself.

Thanks!

I'm not sure I would use that. You can use sevin or poultry dust. You can have them order the sevin or poultry dust for you. If they won't order it, try a TSC or a mom & pop hardware store or feed store.

I just looked up the one your purchased, and it says .25% not 25% so you should be fine.

Kills ants and carpenter ants on contact. Convenient shaker canister for easy application use. Use to treat around home perimeter. For exterior use only. Active ingredient: 0.25 percent permethrin.

apparently, this stuff is highly toxic to cats in any concentration. I was going to do some minor dusting of birds (following package instructions/amounts) and possibly sprinkle around in the litter, but after reading the caution regarding toxicity to cats, I am rethinking my strategy. my cats love to snoop around in the coop.
