I have a 3 week old SF. She/he is much smaller than the others and has eye problems since it’s first day in the brooder. Some bedding got into the eye and it sealed shut with mucus. I flushed it twice a day after applying a warm compress I also applied a medicated gel. I’ve done this for nearly 3 weeks. No other symptoms in this chicken and no problems at all with the other 8 in the brooder. It’s definitely getting worse and now it seems to be giving up.

Sorry about your chick. What was in the medicated gel? I would start cleaning the eye with saline eye wash and get some antibiotic drops or ointment to use 2-3 times a day in the eye. Your local vet could help with that, something like ciprofloxacin, or you could use plain Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic Ointment in the eye. Terramycin eye ointment is available at feed stores if you ask for it, and it will treat some bacteria.

Thank you, I’ve been using terramycin. Just once a day though. it seems like his/her eye fluff keeps getting into the eyes making it worse! So frustrated. This hatch (all salmon Faverolles) has been a high maintenance nightmare.
