Personal hygiene when owning chickens and other animals

I was mad and yelled at them, but thinking back on it, I can understand in a way that it's hard to admit your loving animal who's so sweet with your kids can act completely different with strangers.

I don't know if they keep him locked up now, because I've been taking a small detour to avoid him !

This dog is vaccinated against rabies and it has become mostly inexistent where I live.
Did it heal nicely ManueB?

In the area/community where I come from (south of the Netherlands) a dog that bites flesh wounds on people outside the domain were it supervises is considered false.

The most common thing to do with such a dog is to bring him to the vet to end his life. Because its very difficult to change such behaviour and there is a risk he might bite again.

So I would talk to the neighbour to find out if the dog is still a risk. Good to know what happened with the dog and if its safe to pass the house again.

Yes, I will talk with them, i've been postponing it until I wasn't so angry.
The legal course here would be to have the dog evaluated by a vet, but no one really do that where I live.
It's fully healed now and it was much more impressive and scary than painful 🙂.

I have yard work clothes that I wear to do outside work. I keep those separate from everyday work clothes. Then I have a boot mat just inside the back door that I kick my boots off on before walking further inside the house. I just put up some hooks right inside the door too to put my work jacket, hat, and flashlight on when I come in and outside. Then of course handwashing.

I’m so glad to see this. I take shoes off at the back door of the house. Wash hands a lot. I don’t wear gloves usually especially when gardening. My problem is even after scrubbing my hands are stained. I’ve always had rough hands, but now that garden season is here my hands look “dirty” all the time. Any good spas or scrubs out there?

The auto parts store carries hand scrubs for mechanics. It works well for anyone who works with their hands and their hands show it.

But moisturize afterward with a heavy-duty moisturizer.

I thought for sure I replied to this, but I didn't.

I wash my hands when I come in. That's it. I have a pair of flip flops that I use for the duck pen. They get wiped off on the outdoor rug and then come off at the door. Shoes don't make it past the door. If I'm doing anything that gets me pooped on (duck poop penetrates! 🤣), I will rinse off the solids and toss the clothes straight into the washer and get a quick shower.

I am more concerned about what's in the stagnant pond water than what comes out of my bird's butts. I'm also that person that can clean a deer, wipe my hands on my jeans and then eat a sandwich though. I don't worry about getting sick from my animals. I only really worry about parasite transmission. I deworm everyone, but they are still living in the back of my mind lol.

I always wash my hands, even if the only thing I touched was the coop doorknob and the gate. As for shoes, I've walked through the house with shoes I've been in the coop with. As long as there is no visible manure on them, it's fine. Now when I work with horses, my hands might have manure, blood, and dirt on them(picking dirty hooves with fly bites on the legs), and I've gone right to eating before, with just wiping the muck off on a post or the ground. Gross, I know, and I'm probably gonna get some comments, but I've never gotten sick. I've been around the horses almost my whole life. But boy, does it feel good when I do finally wash my hands and all that brown water goes down the sink!
