Personality of Jap. Bantams??

Years ago , we raised Jap. Bantams they were the sweetest little things esp with the children, our two roos would take turns chasing each other around the yard ( they did quite a bit of fighting) one little hen would ride on my son's big wheel with him and was frequently on his shoulder. We raised ours from chicks and with young children they were handled almost constantly.

Our Bantam will be handled a lot as well. The kids seem to hold her more than the others. I think it's because her legs are shorter and she can perch better on their arms.

All our chicks get plenty of loving.

I love my Audrey, she was a hatchery opps (we did not order Japs), but she is one of my favorites. She doesn't like to be held but she is easy to handle when you pick her up. I hope one day to breed Black Tailed White Japanese.

Here is Audrey:

I have 2 japs one buff with a black tail we got from a local critter exchange along with a cross breed and a white one with a black tail we have had since she was a day old and i have to say shes nuts... as much as i handle all of my birds she hates it and me as well and boyyyy can she fly as well as the buff one.... Last sunday we had my father over for dinner and i had the buff jap out on the patio with me but when i tried to catch her before the rain came she flew 2 stories high trying to fly thru the upstairs livingroom window, it had to be at least 20 ft high. Altho when i bring treats outside or just go out to see them shes the first one to run to me but once she gets to me she backs off. She is also mean to the cochins that she has been with since day 1... alpha hen for sure. It didnt matter to me how much "hands on" i gave her she never tamed down but i keep her anyway because shes just sooo darn cute... Her name is princess

Hey chickenaddict, your japs sound like my "Napoleon". I call him Napoleon because he has the "little man syndrome". He beats up on EVERYONE in the run. He has been looking at my turkey as if he is plotting to attack him as well. I hope he doesnt push his luck with George the turkey.
