Pet chickens may be plucked from owners?

From the sounds of it, it was one lone alderman who's pushing for the ban -- no doubt one of those roosters lives next door to him. But isn't it always the noisy minority who get the laws changed in their favor? Especially when the minority is already in the position of making those changes without the usual hoops to jump through. :|

Our society seems to be bent on catering to the whims on the few these days.

My DH and I were just talking the other night about how our country was based on the majority rules and now it isn't even the minority rules, it's ONE person rules! All it takes these days is for one person to complain, it doesn't matter if 100 people are on the other side of the issue, the one gets things changed in their favor. That is sooo wrong!!

Things need to change!

First, I live in town and a rooster crowing between the hours of 10:00pm and 8:00am - I would put in the same class as dogs barking, not something a good neighbor would allow.

However , Chicago and its inhabitants might be better served by an ordinance that caters to
all the people. They could disallow roosters (or better yet put a continuous noise clause in their ordinance), and limit the hens by the area of the property, so many square feet per bird.

The truth of the matter is that the main reason that people want to get rid of chickens is appearance. They are dignified (picture nose up in the air sort ) . I use to go to Chicago on business and the people over all always struck me as good folks, things might work out all right yet.

I have a guy who lives next door that has a donkey. I thought it was cute at first but after it comes up next to the house at 3 in the morning and starts that braying racket. I will take roosters any day of the week! Oh and then I live a farm or two over from were John Travolta lives in Anthony Fl. Well he flies in and out at all hours of the night sometimes. Talk about noisy so a few chickens with or with a roo is nothing. But if they have to ban anything then ban the roos in town.

When can I petition to have my neighbor's children removed? They are the loudest kids I have ever heard, and I grew up in a boisterous family of four sisters!

I have to second the dog barking thing. I have neighbors with dogs and some with chickens and roosters. I will take a rooster crowing over the non stop barking any day. If we are banning noisy things then I guess the kids and I will have to move LOL The kids playing can get very noisy,
