* In the "O.C." as a kid, we had the bakery truck (with FRESH EVERYTHING, EVEN DOUGHNUTS!!), the dairy truck, the watermelon/fruit/produce vendor, and I don't know what-all besides the ice cream/candy guy!! That all kinda ended when one new business appeared in the neighborhood. . . Care to guess???

Ok, try not to laugh, but we have an ice cream truck that has that darn bass ba boom, ba boom, ba boom,,, I call it the mating call of the illiterate loon. The kids flock to it though because they think it's cool! The other trucks play either Mariachi music or traditional hispanic music. Across the line in Texas they play music that reminds me of kindergarten, of course the little people recognize it and like Pavlov's dogs start salivating at the sound.
On the funny side my little dog Max tries to howl when he hears the trucks and it sounds like someone is killing him.

I would NEVER buy corn or pork rinds (not that I eat pork, but still), from a street vendor. My husband too often in his work saw the conditions these things are prepared in. We have one that plays a really really awful version of "turkey in the straw" Every couple of notes there's like a rimshot...Slifer used to freak out and crow her lungs out whenever it came around.​

We have a Good Humour ice cream truck that comes by every afternoon. The moment I hear the tickle of music in the distance I am taken back to being 7 years old and waiting on the curb with a dime for a snow cone.

The best street vendors ever are in Turkey. My favourite was always the plastic sack of steamed mussels with a couple of lemon slices on top. The donor kebabs were pretty excellent too. The best part is that all of it cost less than a dollar. I knew a lot of Americans who wouldn't eat on the local economy. Pah! It was the best food I've ever had. Sometimes I miss being an expat.

LOL! I live in a rural county into which an ice cream truck has never ventured.

Now I'm going to keep wondering what "turkey in the straw" sounds like.
