When one has a history of honest respect - I see nothing wrong with such banter. I am on both sides of this type of action all of my life in many, many retail locations or professional sites…..My mechanic calls me Beautiful!Loud and clear! Whether my husband is present or not! So I call him Darlin', lol. He's about 20 years younger than me. I don't find it offensive at all!

EXACTLY. Try it with said child/ nephew/ student saying Sweetie instead of Hon. Gaaah! At Burger King, it kinda makes my skin crawl.
