Pet Peeves

My first job as a care giver was for a former Marine who lost a leg following a slip and fall while working at a restaurant that cost him his leg. He didn't get a prosthetic though. Later he lost the other leg as well. He was in his 60's when I worked for him and has since passed. Great guy.

Edit: oops, prosthesis, not prosthetic.
There is a big difference between those who had a "sudden and spectacular event" when they lost their Limb, and those of us who knew it was eventually going to happen.

Not sure which category he was in. When he fell, he broke his back. Had surgery for that. He said they didn't get him up soon enough and he got a clot in his leg. So I don't know how long he knew he was going to lose the first leg. The second leg was going downhill for a long time. It was while I was working for him that he ended up losing the second one. We really tried. In any case it seems it would take some adjustment, emotionally as well as physically.
