Pet Peeves

I always try my best to make food to fit with dietary requests.
However. A pet peeve of mine is asking if anyone has any dietary needs, getting "oh, we can eat anything", making meals and then, THEN getting "I can't eat eggs or black pepper, Tommy hates cheese and any pasta and Susie has a horrible allergy to anything prepared within 10 feet of ice cubes. Well, that pretty much rules out 'anything', now doesn't it?
Yeah, I dislike when people do that too! I've been in multiple situations doing dinner entertainment and that happens.

Fully understand. I had a job where checks were mailed from out of state before direct deposit became a thing. They were late often. The struggle was compounded by being low wage work (pizza place) to begin with.
This was a huge issue on 9/11 after the planes were grounded. Lots of checks were flown in on Fed Ex planes to the different states and tons of people didn't get paid for a long time

Reminds me of a story of a Board member dinner I went to. Handful of years back one of the Board members was hosting a dinner party for the rest of us. Knowing way in advanced of my dietary needs he was going to cook at least one thing I could eat. Taking him at his word I didn't pack myself any food. Well, I was the only one not eating the pork loin dinner and whatever else was cooked in lard. Was HUNGRY that night.

I was a busser at a restaurant for a few summer when I was a kid, we had this lady one day who insisted that gluten not be anywhere near her food (this was way before most people even knew about gluten) so we took great pains to make sure everything was far away from wheat things, scraped the grill, cleared a area for her food to be prepped, we served her and while someone was serving a table next to her, they noticed she was eating her boyfriend/husbands pancakes! We were peeved, to say the least.
If you ever see most of the waitstaff, 2 cooks and the busser staring daggers at a customer, now you know. The customer just did something stupid. The owner decided to implement a small special order charge that day which may have been a bit...padded in this case.

I hate when stuff like this happens because it gets wait staff in the mindset that a lot of customers don't actually have a sensitivity or an allergy like they're saying. Which if somebody had Celiac diseases, for example, it would be very dangerous and would make them sick to have gluten contaminate their food.

I agree. We always tried our best for special orders but the thought is always there. "are they really sensitive or just think sensitivities are trending?"
My friends mom growing up (and still) is celiac, she can be laid out for days if something had a bit of wheat, so if I brought snacks, I'd always be very careful.

Ayup. My mother was convinced my religious conviction not to eat pork was "all in my head" and was determined to make me eat it by fair means or foul. ... I got wise to her pretty quick and would pretty much eat nothing she offered but bare-bones salad at her house. She got me once though, made cookies (shoulda known, she never made cookies!) and greased the cookie sheets with lard. Having abstained from pork for nearly 20 years at that point, I was sick as a dog for three days ... Why do people gotta be like that?

That's messed up.

Peeve...annoying, itchy, tags in clothing. Then you cut tags off, but the edges sewn in continue to drive ya nuts, so when you cut them out, now you've got holes. What a PITA!
don't cut them out, give a good yank. That leaves less behind.
