Pet Peeves

Tell me about it. I paid 1.2k. I've used apple products. I hate them. Probably because I've been an android user since they came out. If I'd have started with Apple, I imagine I'd be an Apple person.
It’s really my favorite fruit. Especially when you mix it with some brown sugar, cinnamon and some dough. 🤤

Because most tech people hate vendor-locked ecosystems and forced obsolescence. 2 things Apple is well known for. Their vigorous opposition to right to repair and insistence on "only use our repair centers or your warranty is toast" may also have something to do with it.

That and paying premium prices for mid tier hardware and features (that android usually pioneers and apple adopts) and selling the brand as part of the appeal is catering to the inner narcissist in all of us.
Am I a narcissist?🤔

Does make sense
Yeah lol for me it was when I accidentally deleted a really amazing pic and couldn’t get it back
That's your opinion. I hate Apple, I think it's trash. And the people that own Apple are wasting their money on crap phones that they just have to replace in two years because they become obsolete. I have better things to spend my money on

Yes, software. And my phone is fast and secure. I'm not going to argue with you about phones. People like what they like. You have the money to waste on an Apple phone? Go for it
My Android broke so easy and became obsolete too

50/50 on this. It is frustrating how you can’t really fix your own phone, although they made that just *slightly* easier this year.

On the other hand, it’s just like BMW cars. You either get it fixed right, or not. If you even change your BMW’s oil, at another facility other than a BMW certified one, that voids your warranty. Same with apple. They want to get things done right. No compromises.

Again, 50/50 on this. True, android has features that takes years for apple to adapt. Like wireless charging, android had it in 2013, apple introduced it in 2017. However, apple waits so long cause they want to do it the “Apple way”. Which, in a nutshell, means perfection. That’s why Android’s features are usually glitchy and not great when they first come out, like wireless charging. Apple takes their time in perfecting it, making sure it works perfectly and seamlessly each and every time.

And it’s not mid-tier hardware. I mean, this year kinda, yes, for the *base* iPhone 14. That honestly makes no sense. But apple also has big features that android doesn’t. Probably the biggest one, FaceID. Everyone tried to copy it, of course, but everyone failed. No other company has FaceID. Even if they do, it’s trash. Even TouchID is still better than today’s companies, even though they released TouchID in 2014 (I believe).

I don’t understand this part 😅
I'm going to touch on a couple of things here to illustrate a point.

FaceID Is an Apple Product, but it isn't an Apple invention. It's an adapted version of primsesnse's tech that was used in XBox Kinect units, which itself was multiple generations of iteration on the theme from code developed for biometric scanners in the 90's (think fingerprint readers). Apple didn't invent it. they bought Primesense to get the tech and IP. Apple then ported and miniaturized that tech to rebrand it as FaceID. That's not innovative. That's "business as usual".

Same with wireless charging. Go look at who Apple licenses the Qi patents from if you want to see who's REALLY working on improving the tech. It's not Apple. (It's Phillips) APPL was late to the game on it not because they were improving it, but because Phillips wouldn't cut them a deal on licensing the tech.

Apple sells it's brand as much as it sells it tech. "Apple" is synonymous with "hip, trendy, cool" and large portions of their consumer base (not all but a major majority) are buying it for the brand. Like Nike, lululemon, car brands, etc... APPL gets away with all of the other things they do because the masses HAVE to own the newest coolest ithingy. Look at the current Apple Watch sensor suits that just got apple spanked for violating 2 separate patents. APPL didn't care that they were stealing it, because they figured they had enough money to fend off the lawsuits

Again, "Business as usual" they don't care, because they have money. YOUR money. :p

We have iphones, ipads, and macbooks in the house because the girls like them better. To each their own. I have no problem with you being an Apple enthusiast. There is plenty of room in the market for both.

Am I a narcissist?🤔
No, Wally. At least not from what I've seen. Every generalization has exceptions.

You had me worried! But mostly it’s what you get used to. There will always be those that must spend more and make sure the rest of us know it. There was a time when you could buy a couple models back and get a deal. Not so much anymore.

Truth to tell, the day Apple's cameras get better then the ones in android phones, I'll probably switch. Thats the major deciding factor for me in a phone. So far it hasn't happened, but the gap narrows every generation.
