The little dot is called a tittle? That's a fun wordMy pet peeve right now: When people write a lowercase i or j and do not use a tittle. What is so hard about making a tiny dot!?![]()
I love the word. I also loved yelling at my friend for writing me a letter and not using tittles. It made reading his letter a right pain in the arse. The little dot is called a tittle? That's a fun word
And a jot is the cross on T, right?I love the word. I also loved yelling at my friend for writing me a letter and not using tittles. It made reading his letter a right pain in the arse.![]()
A jot and a tittle are the same. But jot is derived from Greek, and tittle is derived from medieval Latin. And a jot is the cross on T, right?
I would either slap that anchor, or throw my remote through my TV. Either way, I would not be listening to him anymore. You reminded me of another peeve: when people follow a noun immediately with its pronoun. My local news anchor does it constantly and it distracts me so badly I use my train of thought about the news story. Example: The governor, HE plans to hold a news conference .... Mariah Carey, SHE is planning a tour ....
Please. You don't need a pronoun except as a substitute for a noun. Use one or the other, not both. Thank you. Sister Mary Oliphant would thank you.
Tittle is more fun. Just sayinA jot and a tittle are the same. But jot is derived from Greek, and tittle is derived from medieval Latin.![]()
