My latest pet peeve is s-backing. That's pronouncing an "s" sound as "sh." Example: understand becomes undershtand, street becomes shtreet. When you start listening for it, you hear it everywhere.

Also, pronouncing "t" as "ch," so Youtube becomes Youchoob. I think that's called yod-coalescence.

^^Interesting! I do some of the yod coalescence in everyday, informal speech.

"Wha chu want for dinner?" or "Wha cha wan for dinner?"

I don't think I've ever said "shtreet" for "street," except mistakenly or as a joke.

This! Yep, my grandmother, aunt, and mother all pronounced “t” as “ch”. Crystal was always “chryschal”, and Christie was “Chrischie”.

So funny! Our umbrella cockatoo does s-backing when she speaks. “Yesh” “sherious issue” “Gimme kish kish kish”.

We think she sounds like Sean Connery.

2. I'm peeved that my system's autocorrect wants me to change the above "here" to "hear". Truly superior technology at work here hear.

3. Raisin Bran has no business containing 18 grams of sugar per cup when it tastes like cardboard with raisins.
