COTURNIX ARE DEFINATELY THE MOST EASY TO HANDLE AND LEAST SPASTIC OF ALL.

I agree. If my cotornix get out, they only fly a short distance (10 of 15 ft) and then sit there until I get then. I sometimes let 5 or 6 out to free range but I don't let them get too close to the woods. They hop around and forage much like chickens, and they are not clipped or pinioned. Would not dare do that with bobs.

I have three coturnix that I hatched this past summer, 2 males and 1 female. I had to take one of the males out of the cage because they were killing each other, I now have one on the dining room floor and he's got his box he runs in and out of. The DH want's to keep him as a pet, so his name is "Emiliano". please post any concerns I might not be aware of. thanks!!!

The is Robert my pet Bobwhite. I love Robert very much and he spends 50/50 time is his cage and out of his cage. He runs around, naps with the dogs, sits up in the chair with me and likes to be petted..........sometimes. Robert is very moody. When he is in a bad mood, he gets put up. He will attack your feet and nip your hands. I have had a Coturnix female as a pet and she was way nicer. Not sure if I will ever have another quail for a pet, but if I do it will be a Coturnix.

If you are ok with your setup, I'm ok with it. Single coturnix roos can crow a lot, but if that's ok with you, then go for it.
It's actually a good idea to hang onto extra roos if you have a very small number of birds! I learned that the hard way.

If your goal is to have a breeding colony of coturnix. I would recommend getting some more hens, but that is a different story.

Edit follows:
On a side note: You did right keeping the winning roo with the hen. Sometimes people make the wrong assumption that aggressive roos should be culled. With coturnix, that is not the case.

permit me to disagree. i had a few pet coturnix (rest in peace batman, shirly, dilly, dally, fidget, crash and bob. let it be known that the dogs that killed all of you are shot dead and thrown off the bluff)

dilly flew right up out of the cage and waaaay out of the neighborhood. he came back a few days later thirsty and nervous. i guess he got lonely and his buddies called him back

he got both wings clipped.

batman was by far the most tame out of them all. he would walk right up to me and wait to be picked up. coturnix make great pets and lay cute little tasty eggs.
