None of us are!

I think it's great that you want to see animals treated more humanely, I believe that we all do. I cannot, however, and will not support organizations that wish eradicate farming as a whole. So I will not be signing.

Anyone can buy meat, eggs, dairy, anything from farms where animals that were treated humanely. Focusing on the factory farms in the industry, makes people think that that's how all farms are run and that is far, far from the truth. I have had many arguments with Veg's who think that every farmer is an evil animal abusers from videos they have seen on the net and propaganda from certain organizations. I have seen first hand that there are many farms that truly care about the welfare of their animals and not the bottom line.

IMO if people care so much about the welfare of how animals are treated, they would support their local farmers rather then ignoring farmers as a whole.

Remember, too, the best and cheapest organic fertilizer for veggies is manure.

I agree with you, Henry.

Completly agree with what frozen feathers just wrote. I am very passionate about sustainbility and I am the head of our club at school we are going on a retreat and when I come back I will share a bunch of new stuff with all you guys also.

I also wanted to add that most of the time vegtables are worse for the enviroment then meat. THey are shipped long distances to be consumed in unhospitable growing locations. THey use fossil fuels and allot of pesticides to produce. also unlike animals many plants remove nutrients from the soil and don't restore any thing to it unlike livestock.

I have to agree with the rest of the group. I also live and was raised on a cattle ranch. We ranchers don't need bad publicity like they show on tv. It only takes the stock market to see the bad publicity to lower our cattle prices. We've had a fairly good market the last few years, and we don't need for it to crash anymore.

These kind of people don't know or understand all the hard work a rancher puts into their cattle and the pride they have when they have a good year. Not all ranchers are rich, but we are very happy with our cattle.

they simply have no clue! you know i'd love to live in harmony with all the plants and animals and just eat something that materialized out of no where but i live in the real world and food has to come from somewhere and if you havent noticed, look around--nature is pretty cruel. food takes a lot of work to grow and harvest, and if anybody on this board doesnt think the american farmer is the staple of this society, you are in for a rude awakening. b/c the farmers are being put out of business and this sort of negative bias does not help anything.

Nope won't sign it either. Like others have said it only takes one bad ordeal and all of us farmers will suffer. I wish all this could be left alone. If you eat veggies great we don't bother you, but there are those of us who like or love our meats don't bother us. I won't get started too much into the whole ordeal, but it's a sore subject.
Things could go like this for the vegan people:
Seed is planted, seed grows and blooms turns into a gorgeous plant, produces fruit, then it's harvested and it dies. Poor plant how cruel is that? It just gets going looks so pretty and wham! it's food. It dies a horrible death( it could be picked over and over or cut many times(this is suffering for the plant) or even worse plowed up) People have relationships with their gardens too, some talk to there plants. Just don't go there ,it's just sad.. See? there are always 2 sides to every scenerio.
Livestock is just that! NO pets. Yip I love my cows and take pride in caring for them, but I do NOT go out and pet them, love on them etc.. They are an income and food for my family. AMEN to this already. And don't even start with the horse slaughter bill, that is really a sore subject. grr

blood meal. yuck. but i agree that its a sad thing.. but it is nescisary for the way are ecomony works. in some cases.. but i DO believe that there is a diffrence between harvesting an animal and slaughtering an animal.... i do not think that animals should ever be slaughterd... because thats wasteful... but animals like cows and sheep etc. are raised for pourposes. think about all the things that animal biproducts come from.... rubber...glass....fertilizer....crayons..paint.....makeup.... its amazing what you can do with all the things that are mot used for meat. so i believe that it is nesicary for animals to be raised to feed su and provide us with the things that we need.. but i still also believe that if you still believe in this that something you are pasionate about than go for it... but i do agee with the others. sry.
