So....I put a little 8" x 8" square flock block in for my buddies today. It has meal worms, seeds, cranberries...and other stuff all molded together like a bad Christmas fruitcake. You would of thought I put a hawk down on the brick the way they are acting!

Jeesh...I thought chickens loved those things.... Ugghhhh....they're killing me...:th

They hate "new" once they discover what it is, it'll go in a flash.

Touchy little souls, aren't they...
I know the look. I suspended a head of lettuce from a chain in their shelter last summer. Once they figured out that it wasn't a bomb or something they finished it in maybe 10 minutes. Then I tried cabbage and got the same reaction, then they about beat each other with the swinging cabbage. Now I just cut what ever it is in quarters and toss it out...

They loved the hanging cabbage I gave them. They went right up to it...no cabbage-perplexity. Maybe I should try hanging the worm fruitcake?

I'm just sad that they don't trust me enough to come sit with me...or let me pet them. King and Beauty are the only two that will take food from my fingers. Bashful is so afraid of me she flaps all over the place if I get within 3 feet of her...it breaks my heart. I keep trying to do little extras for them...so they see that I'm not out to harm them. :(

Next time you're in the run, sit there and ignore them for a while... when they've all gathered at your feet, drop a few meal worms. After they've finished them, slowly lower your hand down with some in your palm and just wait quietly. There is a risk of them jumping into your lap and do wear sunglasses or some form of eye protection.

i gotta try this

It works! You can even have a little fun and toss one worm at a time..you might get hurt once they figure out you=worms but you only live once! @KettermanHillCoop don't beat yourself up over the flock block, mine flogged the stupid thing for two weeks, then they just sat on it.:)

LOL...I've actually inadvertently did the ignore thing...trying to put ketchup on my burger. King plopped up on my lap and took a nibble from my burger and plopped back down. :) Apparently I wasn't moving things along fast enough for him.

I will try it on purpose now! Thanks for the tip!
