Petrified of the flock block?

When ever I integrate new birds in the pasture I'll go out and sit on the duck house and just observe to make sure pecking doesn't get out of hand. If I don't offer treats, I'll be covered in birds within a half hour. By now most of my birds will take food or treats from me. There are always the hold out though.

Next time you're in the run, sit there and ignore them for a while... when they've all gathered at your feet, drop a few meal worms. After they've finished them, slowly lower your hand down with some in your palm and just wait quietly. There is a risk of them jumping into your lap and do wear sunglasses or some form of eye protection.
Absolutely agree. Also, don't make eye contact or look at them directly. It changes your body language enough to make skittish birds run away.

If I remember correctly your birds are rescued ferals, right?
I raised mine from chicks, handled & fed them every day & they were still skittish of me during their teen weeks.

You can also try tossing treats one by one every time they get near you. Gives positive reinforcement for even approaching you, even if they don't eat out of your hand right away.

I also sometimes stoop & scratch the ground, then do the "tut tut tut" sound & throw worms where I just scratched. They like it as an activity that's centers you together around something they already like doing -- scratching & pecking -- withoit having to come face to face with you.

Give them time & patience. They'll come around. :hugs

Another good point. Teenage chicks are gawky, squawky, and panicked until they reach about 6 months of age... some take even longer.
