Is there such a thing as petting chicks too much?? My 4 wk old chick loves being pet, but I wonder, is it okay to pet her so much??

i hope not. i have 4 coops and i cant even bend over to fill the food treys and they jump all over my back. i have had chickens for only 9 or 10 months and never had a clue how friendly they are.yea i have a few that arent as friendly but no biggie

The thing that has most amazed me about chickens in the years I've had them is that they are such creatures of affection, both wanting it and giving it.

Chicks love being cuddled, although they're so full of energy, it's hard for them to be still for long. The more they're gently handled now, the more affectionate they'll be as adults.

Oooh good! Its a lone chick and lately cant get enuff lovins! Cuddler and loves being petted!

Our 6 are only 3-4 days old but they aren't so big on the holding/petting. Its getting tougher as they get quicker to pick them up. During their more quiet times they'll fall asleep in my hands but other times they are peeping and squirming to get out. I'll keep on getting them used to humans and hope they "feel the love".

Do you have to reach down into a box to get them? Chicks have a fear of things coming at them from above, in this case "the hand!!", if they are In a brooding area where you can walk in with them or the brooder is elevated, it seems to help.

i am having a problem with ours running to the opposite corner of the brooder...the only way to get them is from the top...how else do we try to give them the loving we want to if they r always scared of us? my first batch r three months old and we had the same problem now three quarters won't come near us....I just got four more chicks and don't want this to happen again! what should I do? please help....we got the chickens for the egg production but also for the pet angle too...I would love for my kids to be able to interact with them without the chickens being so fearful :(
