I took some photos before the power went out due to a transformer blowing. Big wind today.
It went out at 11:30am, and by 11:35am I had the generator warming up and extension cords running to the incubator/brooder room and the TV.
Came back on about 3:15pm. So... I'll have to download some photos now that the computer is back up.
I'm happy to say that they're all PERFECT. No curled toes, not a single fuzz out of place. I'm ecstatic. There are 5 eggs left in the hatcher, no sign of life, but experience has taught me that if one does hatch (late) it will be a "special" chick.
Niki, I was reading what you wrote about the golden genes, and how they're sometimes fatal. My oldest asked me why I only got two goldens, and I was able to answer intelligently, and in a manner that he understood.
He's 12, but he understands the Punnet squares and a little bit about the color genetics, so I was able to draw it out for him. It was
!
I want more Goldens, so hopefully I can segregate some of my hens and put a jumbo brown over them to get more.

That's really cool Tori
I'm going to work with goldens two ways to see what comes of it. Im going to have a flock of PURE goldens over a golden male. Then a flock of browns, over a Brown male and a Golden male. If i have enough brown hens though fo rbtoh males I'll separate the golden male with a flock of his own brown hens to see if the golden to golden, golden to brown has any differences in fertility/hatchability.
Please let me know how that goes? I was thinking about doing that very test, to see if it affected the hatch or not. I'm really curious to prove/disprove if the genes are fatal or not.
One little pip in the bugton eggs at 6am... by 6pm there were 13 pips. 8:30pm the first bugton hatched... it is now 10:15pm, and there are 22 bugtons in the hatcher, with about 5 more eggs zipping.
I thought we were going to get lucky with maybe 6 chicks...
What am I going to do with them all??? I took more photos, but that will have to wait.
