Thank you all for your thoughts on this topic, REDHEN, can you post a tinfoil hat to Australia

I have posted this on a few forums and im really glad to see people aren’t living in a paranoid world where everyone is out to get them.

I think healthy living is the way to go to avoid any medications and associated side effects (in saying this I should ease up on the booze and cigg's).

I think some of the paranoia generated these days might have to do with the amount of money these companies generate and possibly because tobacco is allowed to be sold so long as there is a warning on the packet. If I was to sell a product, say a soft drink that was addictive and toxic, leading to chronic health problems and eventual death but with a warning label on the can stating the dangers of using it, im sure I would be strung up and quartered but it seems that its ok for giant tobacco companies to do this.

I guess in the end, like someone here posted, you weigh up the pro's and con's of using a medication, change your lifestyle if it’s needed and understand the side effects, working with your doctor to find what works for you.

Again thanks all and take care

It is a fact of life that not all people (or other animals for that matter) do not metabolize things the same way. The very first drug that was used for treatment of syphillis was effective in many hundreds of patients but an unfortunate few dropped dead after one dose. Some people die with anesthesia that works on thousands of others. Certain mushrooms are fine for most people but make other people sick. There is no evil conspiracy.

Naw... the guys making meth in the bathtub like to keep it on the downlow. Sorry, but I could really imagine a grungy freakazoid skitzer who has been sampling too much answering that ad and thinking they are totally qualified.

Anywho, while I don't think the companies plan the effects I also don't think that they're all that hung up on solving them either. If the pill does something they can sell it for so be it... anything else is just static.

haha......... maybe the bathtub meth guy is the perfect guy for the job! he's showed initiative in starting his own little business,
can work unsupervised, has a customer base of sickly people who need some form of medication,
and has a background in evil drugs, he'd probably even put in 23hrs a day without meal breaks!

Just to get a personal pet peeve out of the way: "natural" things are not always better. Go grab a few leaves of foxglove and chew on it for a while. Or go pick some anonymous mushrooms in the woods and see if they do you any good. Even natural supplements can have side effects, and you can overdose on many of them. Caution pays, whether you're dealing with big pharma or nature in the raw! I'll pass on the tin foil hat, thank you, although I'm sure they're lovely.

Amen. "Natural" does not mean either effective or safe. A lot of herbal supplements are useless and some are downright dangerous. And a lot of them are not subject to the regulations and oversight of the FDA. The FDA isn't perfect by any means, but it goes a long way in weeding out some of the worst offenders.

I honestly don't trust Big Pharma due to its corporatist nature and close ties with the FDA. However, I don't think the side effects are intentional - as someone else mentioned, the human body is extremely complex, and I'm pretty sure scientists still don't fully understand it.

On a humorous note:
