Pheasant escaped...

I have a friend who has pheasants getting out at least every 2 months.for some reason I cant make him understand that they can dig under the side of the pen they use there beaks like jack hammers any way he has 15 and its safe to say every one of them have gotten out one or two at a time.most of them will run around for two or three days and then come back and hang around close to the pen and he always seem to catch them but a few of them didnt come back maybe they liked there freedom or turned into somethings lunch. I have had only one get out it was a black mutant roo he came back after two weeks staying in my hay field maybe he was starving or got tired of being chased by everything out there.I think alot of it has to do with how old they are and how tame they are most of mine will follow me or my wife just like the chickens.
