really ?..you think so, after all it is Alabama..it doesnt get very cold there does it?.how cold does it get you guys?..I have never been there in the winter.

It can get pretty cold on days but it don't stay long til it is warmer again. We had snow flutters last year, but by the time the sun was high the snow was gone. Momma gonna cover this week because her banties are under the pheasants to keep wind and rain away! so i guess she answered my question for me. then the big pen will get a half cover for now!

I have a pr. of red golden pheasants and am looking for lady amherst if you know of any for sale.

poultrykeeper08: sorry I missed your post earlier! Yes, I found him on the side of the highway, he was just sitting there (he's white, so easy to spot) and he let my husband walk right up to him and pick him up. There are some pics posted under my thread "chicken breed" that was started around 9/28. We think he was probably hit by a car...he was pretty weak at the time: he'd nearly fall over when he'd vocalize. But now he's all strong and terrified of us. I'll keep working with him....have read some good tips on befriending them with treats. Let me know if you can't find him.

Here's a question for those who know pheasants: my random foundling has no claws except for his 'thumbs'. In fact it almost looks as though his toes were amputated at the first joint. Any ideas about this?

Thanks,all!

I have a pair of Silver Pheasants and another hen on the way.

As soon as they get in their temporary run, I'll get some pics up. I call him Zorro and she is Lady Ophelia, Lady O. for short. They act so regal.

I got a late start on my pumpkins - just getting the transplants in the ground now. Didn't know it was a wormer.

4 Silvers
1 Amherst(male)

Do we count peafowl as well? They are pheasants after all.
If we do I have:
2 White
2 black shoulder
1 pied

As for winterizing, I don't do anything different then what I do in the summer except they get a bowl of warm water in the morning.

Even at -50C the Peas(and other pheasants I had so far like ringnecks and goldens) love sitting outside getting snowed on....

I have a male ring neck. I lost two females as babies. I am looking for some to buy. I let my ring neck out with my chickens and he kind of rules the roost!!! He picks on the frizzle bantams a lot. Chasing them around all over the place. I have had to separate them. He may take off in time, but I didn't feel like he was very happy in his pin. We have really enjoyed watching him run about. DJ
