Pheasant people give me the "dirt" on ringnecks

Okay. I good ratio would be 1:6 or even 1:8.

The roosters will fight to death during mating season. You can get blinders, which are explained in my thread there.

Yes that is probably a good idea. I realized when one of my hens got out that it could have been my rooster, my only rooster. Which would have been bad.

I'm impressed by the thread and the depth you went to to explain everything. Well thought out and great pictures!
I have the Manchurian and the Chinese ring necks, my Manchurian is larger than the Chinese. We raise them mostly for meat birds. Neither exceeds the other flavor wise, just size wise. And everything Ticks wrote about the cannibalism is true! Watch them closely. Also...I've learned the hard way...don't run out of feed...or they will concentrate on each other in NO TIME!

I have found that as chicks a way to get their minds off of cannabalism is to dangle a piece of lettuce from the top of the brooder. They pick at that instead of the other birds.

Not to hijack (isn't that what everyone says when they hijack) but where or how do you keep an extra rooster if the males don't do well together?

Well, sure, you could keep two roosters, but they had have to have a lot of space and a lot of hens to occupy them. Something called blinders that go through the beak or in the nostrils of the bird will help.

... and where's the best place to get the blinders? I've heard people talk about "pinless peepers"... is that the same thing? Thanks to Deerman, I'm going to need to think about this stuff...
