When I lived in Wisconsin we made the trip to Maine a couple of times. I can't imagine making the drive to the East Coast from the West Coast.....yikes!!!!!!!! I don't think the pheasants would enjoy the drive.

Would around march or april be a good time to have them shipped? I am just in the process of adquiring information. What is your minimum order? I could maybe get some of my friends here locally who might some too to also place an order :) Thanks Tony!!! I was thinking about getting some chicks from you a couple from the breeder here so they will not be related, I want no more than 3 pairs. But I know I may have some loss in the birds. I got lucky with this flock of chickens, had one that had cocci but I caught it in time(thanks to my friends here) and they have all made it(I have 12) . I am sure just like this flock I will have my favorites:) I would love to make the trip though and see your set up!!!!!

I'm only 8 miles from the Maine border. What part of Maine do you visit?
The best time to ship is in the fall, and that's just around the corner. Here's my set up,there's 14 6x12x8,3 of them have an off ground 6x6 and 5 more have 4x6 off ground pens for the younger birds.

.I have just started to build 5 more pens that are 8x16x8,these will be for my 2 pair of impeyans,1 pair of temminicks,1 trio of saytr(which are coming soon),and 1 pair of lewis silvers.I have a 4x4 box for planting shrubs and bamboo,so it won't be a wide open pen, they will have some live shrubs ti hide in.The base will be filled with masonry sand, about 6".It's all going to be covered with hardware cloth and a metal roof.No more construction poly.I only got 2 years out of this last roll.I don't know if there making it cheaper or what, but the first time I used it ,I got 4 years out of it.The metal roof will last at least 40 years,I hope.

We stayed at the Captain Bennet bed and breakfast in Bar Harbor Maine, we loved it, and loved the lobster!!!! I don't think I will be ready that fast for chicks.....what do you think about the spring time. Here in Oregon it doesn't get really hot in the spring.

These are not chicks, these are this years hatch, over 1/2 grown.Chicks hatch in late April thru early August. They are not like chickens, they are seasonal layers.
Bar Harbor is about 2 hours north of here.Did you fly?Or drive?

We drove around the great lakes through New York, Vermont a quick trip through New Hampshire then to Maine. One of my favorite trips with the exception of Hawaii. Cool set up!!! I hear to go with round pens because if you raise young you avoid cannabalism. How much of an issue is it? And I don't think I will have my pens set up before next spring so we will have to figure something out. How hard is it to ship birds 1/2 grown? Thanks again for answering all my questions Tony!!!!

Well if you went to Maine using rt 95 you went right by me.I am 2 miles from rt 95.I don't think if your pen is round it will stop cannabalism,if the birds are aggressive, the pen doesn't matter. Now the size of the pen, that may deter them from killing each other. If your pen is big,as long as you don't overcrowd them, they should be fine.Shipping 1/2 grown birds is no different then shipping adult birds.I ship express overnight only!
Did you try craigslist for you area?Amherst are common birds in anyones collection. The shipping will probably cost more then the birds. The shipping cost have gone up.It use to cost 50.00- 60.00 to ship a pair, and the heavier birds even more.I don't know what the shipping cost is now,I will have to check.

You might want to try calling 509-467-1216. He has Amherst, Swinhoe, Sommering Coppers, and a few more spicies. They are nice birds at good prices and closer to you than some guy on the east coast. I believe he is in Olympia Wa.
