Tried out my new camera.
Congratulations on getting a new camera! What is it? If you don't mind sharing. :D

On all of the pictures I'm seeing, I think you need to brighten up the pictures. Try slowing down the shutter speed. ;)

I only have the one that came with the camera. AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm

portraits. I would also like it to zoom in more?

That will serve as a great supplemental lens and allow you to do some portraiture and give you a zoom. Portrait art lenses are usually primes (non zoom) but before you jump in on an expensive fast prime this is a good compromise lens. It's not good for low light (like at all unless you shoot really high ISO), but with fill flash, you will be fine.

I'll be taking more today. What do you think I should aim for?
  • Blurry or clear background?
  • Where should I take it? Grass? Bricks?
  • Should I try more action shots?

And... Which flock member(s) would you like to see?
  • 2 white silkies
  • 1 silver silkie
  • 1 black silkie
  • 2 brahma/cochins (one white one columbian) *
  • 1 millefleur frizzle *
  • 1 millefleur barbu d'uccle *
  • 1 silver sussex *
  • 1 paint polkie
  • 1 cochin rooster chick
  • 1 small silkie mix chick
I'll do action shots on the ones with the * next to them. Because they can fly.

I'll be doing some of my Noodles because she's just the best thibg in the world and she actually stays still (so I can practice focusing on her eye!)

Blurry or clear background?
Blurry. It looks more professional. :P
Where should I take it? Grass? Bricks?
Try both. I'd like to see what they look like.
Should I try more action shots
Yes! If it's helpful, have someone gently toss a good bantam flyer and get pictures of that. If in the right area, have the bantam just leaving the person's hand.

Do all. I'd like to see the Silver Silkie, Paint Polkie, Mille Fleur Frizzle, and maybe the Silver Sussex. Of course, for the action shots, a good bantam would be good. ;) If you wanted to do chicks, do the two together for a cute shot. :love

I've taken some before seeing Lacy's great advice.

I'll try this!
