OK. Well, unless the MLP is stalking someone, hiding behind the grass like that is visually distracting. Popping the head out fully between the blades of grass would help with the composition if you want to experiment with it.

Could you maybe go back and edit your post to number these shots? There's a LOT to look at and comment on here. Ideally 1-4 images per post is going to get the best response. I'll answer your first question here though.

The first image is pretty darn good. It's a little flat because you were in the shade, but it's sharp, has good depth of field, and is a solid composition. I would bump the exposure a bit and tweak brightness/contrast, and probably highlights and shadows and let it go.

The second one does not do it for me at all. The colors are overcooked (way too saturated) and are beyond "looking natural". Too much yellow and purple in it.

Just numbered them, and do you also think I should crop it a little like how I did with the second picture?

Level the image. You are tilting left, both with the sleeper and with the shadow line in the background. Focus is good. Personally I'd edit out the poop but that's a matter of preference. Lighting isn't bad for an indoor shot where you're not using flash.

Very cluttered. Maybe experiment with some cropping to bring the birds more into the overall shot and lose as much of the ground cluter around them as you can. My eye is drawn straight to the ladder and then the pool.

Same as 2, I'd try to get him in profile if you're trying to show off that tail, chicken butt works against you here.

You're very close to the top left and right edges so the image looks crowded. Maybe try and crop that down to more of a headshot and see if it levels out the composition a bit. Focus is good and sharp. Again, shooting in the shade makes it a bit flat on contrast so you might try to bump it a bit.

I have the cropped downs of 2 and 3 just where not on the phone. I'll keep in mind leveling the angle on the #1. Was a difficult pic to get. I actually held the phone upside down to get the picture so I could steady it better. The look I got of it before I snapped it was just make sure it wasn't blurry. Now to pay more attention to other details.

Ground clutter is distracting. Lighting is nice.

Composition could be better. No duck butts.

A little bland because of the shade, not it's a decent image.

Oversaturated. Turn it down.

It's OK. Watch your lighting when you're shooting into the sun, it can easily overwhelm your shot.

The board really takes away from this shot and is a distraction.

Same. not as bad because you're closer in and up a bit but still a distraction.

the vertical composition leave a lot of dead space top and bottom. You could crop those both in a bit and balance it out.

The sky in this is blown out and draws your eye to the sun. Maybe see if you can crop it down to the grass in a square to help that.

Not bad as a snapshot.

Watch your horizon. the water and that pole are leaning left. I'm not sure you can correct them both so I's probably try to get the pole vertical and see how that impacts the rest of the shot.

Come down lower and zoom in.

This one's a bit dark and again leans left.

backlit and dark. The sunset is taking the emphasis in this shot.

These are decent snapshots.

I like this one except the background head.


In general your eye is pretty good. These are all small things that will improve with practice. At first you kinda have to think about them, but over time they become automatic as you're composing shots.

I think it would look really cool if he was doing this pose while facing the camera, or straight from the side with him and his tail filling the picture (first would be profile, second landscape) With the phone at the middle of his body including the tail. Also I agree about decluttering. Also taking a picture when it’s brighter will help make his colors really shine.
