Photo's of Sandhill Chickens

OK, I keep reading mixed reviews on this place. I was wondering if anyone could post pictures of their chickens they got from Sand Hills. I am not a big on APA standards guy but am more of a function over form guy. However, I believe a bird should look like its breed. For example a RIR should not look like a Speckled Sussex.

So if you can post a picture and state if you are happy with them or not I would be very happy. I am looking for some hens that will be broody. They (S.H.) claim their Dorkings and Iowa Blues are very broody. If you have any knowledge of this or any of their other breeds being broody please let me know.

If any of you know where someone can get some broody hens from a good breeder I would be very interested. I would love to get some Iowa Blue chickens.

I have from them:

Black Crested Blue Polish,

Red leghorns,

Anconas,

Mille Fleur Leghorns,

Barred Holland,

American Bresse,

Gold Spangled Hamburgs,

Mottled Java.


Mine are only ten or so weeks old but look pretty bang-on with photo comparisons at various points along the age ranges.

Temperment-wise it goes from most favorite to least: hamburgs, barred Holland, mille fleur, Bresse, Ancona, red leghorn, polish.


Looks-wise: hamburgs, bresse, polish, mille fleur, barred Holland, Ancona, red leghorn.


I'm waiting on a second package from them. There are some valid criticisms of them, but I've been very happy with them and assuming things go well with the second package, am already planning a third before summer ends.


By the way, cannot recommend the Gold Spangled Hamburgs (at least the females) enough. I have to assume we got one that just doesn't know how to chicken because she is the most polite, dainty, patient bird we have. She even *eats* cleanly. Naturally, she now gets tons of preferential treatment, and while she's clearly spoiled, she doesn't abuse it. And she's gorgeous.
