Are newborn Mallards supposed to be this small??
Also, I dipped his beak in water and helped him to the food, but he has trouble swallowing the food (at least the bigger pieces of crumble). Is that normal? I'm totally new to this so please bare with me. He also doesn't know to eat food and then take a drink of water. Once again, is that normal?

VERY VERY CUTE. I would take the crumbles and rub them back and forth in your fingers to make the cumbles even smaller, that is what I had to do with my baby call ducks. Put the food near the water and he/she will learn how to eat and then drink. Good Luck.

He isn't going to want to eat or drink for a day or so. Still has some food from the yolk going on there. It's a duck. It will find water when it needs it.
