Pick of other broody's first baby, hairy with mask???

You MUST be careful,

Chickens can rear a duck, but Ducks rearing a chick, well the chick will follow the duck out into the water, and they dont fare well.

Chicks drown.

I know this, but there is no water available that the chick could get into on it's own, the mommy duck would have to pick it up to put it in and if I even think she might do that I'll take the baby. I'm waiting to see if any of the other chicken eggs she's sitting on hatch. I just realized that baby might be Nugget and Duchess's offspring, that was originally Duchess's nest!

That first pic makes me think of Dueling Broodys instead of Dueling Banjos

Well now, did she steal the chicken eggs, or did the chicken make a deposit? The duck doesn't look all that interested in the chick in the photos, but apparently looks can be deceiving!

But what is the baby eating?

How sweet. She looks like she is happy with her new "clucking
hehehehe

I don't know, I'm trying to decide if I should take it inside, we've been having rain and bad weather and I'm wondering if she's got anymore chicken eggs under her! The hen sitting next to her is on about 17 eggs.

Just be careful. A friend of mine bought a case of chicks after Easter and, in order to get the case for the price he wanted, he had to take the one duckling the feed store had left. The chicks saw the duckling as their "mom." Well, shortly after Easter we had torrential downpours here in VA, and the chicks all followed the duckling out into the rain and drowned

The baby just hatched this morning, I put some starter nearby in case it got hungry and small dish of water with marbles in it for water. This is another reason I feel like I should take it but the momma duck is so protective I feel bad about it. We'll see what happens tomorrow if it survives the night.

In addition, ducks may not seek cover when it rains and can live in damper conditions than are healthy for a chick. But it sure is cute.
