i got 10, 1 year old hens . they are rhode island red and sexlink cross. so far i got 6 eggs total since monday from the 10 new birds. i looked at some of the vents and they looked dry . what can i do to encourage them to lay. its only been four days i know they just need to settle in . the eggs i have got so far are nice big eggs.

They just need to settle in. They often lay a few eggs off the bat because that's what was "in the chute" when you bought them, but the sudden change in environment and stress of moving will cease operations for a while. It normally takes 2-3 weeks for them to settle in and start laying regularly again.

Yes they need to settle and get used to their environment.

Feed them well, establish a routine with them, and slowly they will come back into lay.

Good Luck,

sandie

I agree with previos posters new surroundings new feed new waterer new coop. when they get all comfy in thier new life they will start laying again! no worries.
