My 1-month olds female black sex-links have feathers on their wings but under the wings and on their necks they are bare. Some spots have little beginnings of feathers, but in other spots it looks a tiny bit red. I don't see any blood and it doesn't look like any disease i can find reference to, but it looks wrong. Does anyone know what it might be or if it is just normal?

As chickens grow and molt, they also go through some stages that are sometimes referred to as looking ugly or moth eaten. They can have bare spots during this time. Also areas with a lot of pin feathers growing all at once. It varies, but most have their less attractive times. They can also be sort of adorable, in a way that only their mother or a doting auntie would love.

Even as adults, some chickens go through what is known as a hard molt, where they look like either a predator chewed on them or they're sickly, but they just dropped a lot of feathers at once. Others do a more gradual, less noticeable molt.
